The PTS Masada is the airsoft gun release of the century. There is much controversy surrounding this gun with the the video game community and the common/uncommon features it has with the Bushmaster ACR. Nevertheless, Magpul PTS have worked tirelessly to produce this gun as accurately as possible to the real thing, and they have done just that. The hybrid metal and polymer construction have been done using only the finest materials and building process. The upper receiver is CNC machined from aluminum and the lower is made from Dupont reinforced polymer. The upper features a continuous top rail so the shooter can mount their choice of optics anywhere they want along the rail depending on their mission. The front sight is built into the upper receiver and is spring loaded so it can be deployed in less than a second; the top rail is also home to the rear MBUS flip sight, also spring loaded with an ambidextrous release lever. The controls on the gun like the magazine release, charging handle release and the fire selector are all ambidextrous. The QD sling swivel on the stock can be moved to the left or right side to accommodate any shooting hand. The fixed carbine stock is designed similar to the CTR stock in that it has a void in it to act like a handle, perfect for grabbing your gun on the go. The stock may not be adjustable for length but the built in cheek rest is adjustable for height to provide a comfortable cheek weld for different types of optics. One would need many types of optics on hand depending on their mission because the Masada has a quick change barrel system that allows it to be shortened or extended depending on the mission criteria. The barrel can be removed in a matter of seconds with no tools required. Magpul PTS did not just make an externally functional and aesthetically pleasing AEG, but they constructed the internals terrifically to match the awesome exterior.
The Magpuls PTS Masada can be disassembled in a matter of minutes, down to the gearbox. The gearbox is a unique version 2 with a motor cage designed to keep the motor pinion gear in line with the bevel gear at all times. This gearbox also has a quick change spring function that will allow the user to change their muzzle velocity on the fly with minimal tools. The old school trigger contact assembly has been replaced with an electronic micro switch system to reduce arcing and prolong the life of the gun. The gears are kept in line with 8mm solid metal bushings; however the bevel gear has been given an 8mm ball bearing since it spins much faster relative to the other two gears. Magpul PTS have engineered the best airsoft gun the world has seen to this day. It's lightweight, performs well, and is built to last. The deconstruction of this gun is simple and requires little tools, a technician's utopia. The muzzle velocity can be changed in a matter of seconds, perfect for players that play in a variety of environments with different FPS limits. No other airsoft gun has the great features the Masada has that both enhance performance and are convenient for the owner.

First, I built my SPR from the parts, not from purchasing the premade unit here. So I ended up with the kit so I was able to put the quick swap function to the test. ALSO I just received this and have not yet put it through its full paces for a season. This is also why I give it a neutral rating of 3
This is 15lbs of solid gun!
The mag well doesn't seem to like the Magpul hi-caps, but so far it loves my other mags. Though it seems like it will take some breaking in to make it a smooth action.
The sound of the gearbox is crisp and strong, but i have yet to put a full 1000 rounds through it yet.
I personally dislike heatshield battery compartments but the Masada platform makes it simpler and easier than most other AEGs i have personally wrestled with. I do have to say the Long Handguard does make for a better battery space.
It also looks pretty cool by itself with the CQC barrel tucked just inside it.
Also, I have a couple of barrel extensions (suppressors) and they seem to slide right into the thing no problem, so no need to detach/reattach it, BUT that is likely not a typical result.
The thing that had me struggling for hours over was getting the stock installed. THIS unit has had that work done for you but because I bought mine as a seperate unit the top pin connecting the stock to the upper receiver did NOT connect flush. I had to disassemble the stock and take the dremmel to the stock AND the upper receiver to get the pin to cooperate. This was an OBNOXIOUS step but did not seem to run a real risk of compromising the integrity of the plastic of the stock or metal of the upper receiver.
The real complaint i have for this thing is the sling mounting options. The swivel mounts WORK just fine, and the unit comes with strap sling attachment points too. But i find it inconvenient to have to install two swivel mounts to take proper advantage. Magpul has plenty of other products that do a better job out of box, so I'm not holding this one against them.
However I would say that if you're the type to sling their rifle like i am, it is in your best interest to look at getting the sling bracket for the stock. (at this time they are out of stock)
Finally, the 18 inch barrel i got came with a black metal flashhider (m16 birdcage style) that I could remove and replace with most of my other barrel attachments. It has a nifty little feature of a triple washered o-ring bracket which i think makes for a better seating for those who want to throw a supressor on. I only point this out because the 11 inch barrel my Masada came with had a misaligned plastic orange flash hider that is firmly glued in place.
Pros:
Long Handguard is more spacious for batteries.
MOE rail attachments seat perfectly
Quick swap system works as advertised.
Whole unit is solid as hell!
Barrel extensions become truly aesthetic but they seat good and solid.
Cons:
Monolithic front sight is annoying and scratches the paint.
Stock is stiff an relatively uncomfortable. Also is painfully slow to adjust (though adjustments are solid)
Seats but hates Magpul hi-caps (proprietary con)
Stock MAY be a pain to install (not for this premade unit...unless they ship the stock detached)
