When it comes to plating airsoft, BBs are arguably one of the most important parts of the game, because without them, there would be no game. Now deciding what type of BBs to buy can be overwhelming because there are so many different brands, weights, colors, and then there is always the question of biodegradable versus non biodegradable or marker versus normal BBs. Because all of this information can be a lot to take in all at once, Airsoft GI is here to help guide you through your purchase decision. One of the first decisions you are going to have to make about your BBs, is the weight you want to use. Primarily speaking, BBs come in .20, .25, .28, .30, .36, .40, and .43 gram weight options. The .20, .25, .28g BBs are normally used for CQB and field guns, while the .30g and heavier BBs are normally used by sniper rifles. This is not to sat that the heavier BBs cannot be used in cqb and field guns, but as the weight of the BB increases, the feet per second at which it travels decreases, so for the most part, if your gun is shooting at 350-400fps with .20g BBs, it is probably not powerful enough to effectively to use .30g or heavier BBs. For sniper rifles on the other hand, the heavier the BBs are more effective, because they tend to carry their velocity longer, and float less with the wind while flying through the air. Once you have chosen your desired weight of BB, the next decision to make is between biodegradable and non biodegradable BBs. Biodegradable BBs are designed to chemically breakdown after they have come in contact with water, and are safe for the environment, so that when they are played with outside, you don't have to worry about leaving pieces of plastic scatters all over the ground because they will eventually disintegrate. Normal BBs, on the other hand, are made of normal plastic, so they do not ever breakdown, which is perfectly fine when using in indoor games, where they will be vacuumed up and thrown at the end of the day. Biodegradable BBs tend to be more expensive than standard BBs, but some players prefer to spend the extra money for the environmental advantage, and many outdoor fields and scenario games will require that you play with biodegradable BBs only. Others, however, prefer to spend less and purchase the standard rounds. A couple of final decisions to be made after this are between colors and marker or non marker BBs. Up until recently, high-grade BBs came primarily in only black and white. However, more companies have begun to produce their BBs in other colors such as green and orange. Generally, the only purpose that the color of the BB serves is its visibility as it flies through the air.
