So I just got this rifle, and holy crap it is amazing. Seriously, A friend of mine has a real steel DS Arms FAL (same stock, same top cover, longer barrel and no railed forend.) The CA model looks and feels identical. It is heavy, solid, beautifully finished, and with amazing attention to detail. The bolt hold open works, the carbon clearing grooves on the bolt carrier are etched in, the front sling swivel rotates, the gas regulator rotates, the take down latch on the rear of the receiver moves back under spring pressure. This rifle is an excellent way to get stopped by the police. The very few issues I have with it are minor enough not to bother me.
First of all, it's not cheap. Don't get me wrong, you are most certainly getting your money's worth in quality for the rifle, but it is a lot of money's worth.
It doesn't come with a battery at all, you have to order one. That kind of sucks considering how expensive it already is, but you get a choice of batteries so it's okay if you're interested in upgrades. I got a 9.6 2000mah battery and it SCREAMS. The rate of fire is absolutely fantastic.
Another battery/cost related issue is the battery box. I've never had any experience with these PEQ-2 cases before, but this one absolutely sucked. The difference in quality between the PEQ-2 and the rifle itself is like night and day. The very first time I opened it, half of the damned thing broke. The rubber keepers on the lens covers are brittle and break easily, the "screw" on the top of the box is barely even glued on, and the windage and elevation knobs on the sides need to be removed to get the case open, which apparently involves breaking them. I was upset about that but I can always buy a new one for reasonably cheap.
Really there's nothing else I've found about the gun that is in any way sub par. Here's a list of the parts on this gun that are made of plastic:
The hand grip.
Seriously, that's about the only major part that is plastic at all. And it's plastic on the real thing so I'm fine with it.
The stock is a little loose in the folded position, which doesn't bother me, because in the extended position it locks up like it's welded. The painted rail markers on the forend look great, almost like they're laser etched. The sights are functional, (shot a little low out of the box but easy to fix,) the markings are authentic, the rate of fire is sick, the muzzle velocity (around 360 with .2's) is outstanding, etc. etc. If you can get over the price and the poor quality battery box, there's really nothing bad to say about this rifle at all.
Pros:
Looks and feels AMAZING
550 round high cap
Stock locks up very very tight
Awesome rate of fire with 9.7 battery
Nobody else has one yet
Cons:
Battery box sucks balls
Doesn't come with a battery
It's entirely possible that you might forget it's a toy rifle and be tempted to hire yourself out as a mercenary carrying only an airsoft gun.
