Lancer Tactical Ver. 2 8mm QD Gearbox Shell w/ Bearings (Blue)
[W10D13A][17752 / AC-336B]The Lancer Tactical Version 2 Gearbox is a great way to increase the stability of your airsoft gun. When it comes to increasing the overall performance of your airsoft gun, it's one thing to simply change other internal components such as the gears, piston, etc. However, one of the main components that becomes overlooked quite often is the gearbox shell itself, the foundation of all airsoft electric gun. Without replacing your gearbox shell to a much more reinforced version, this could result in the shell cracking because of a much more demanding, high performance internal setup.
The Lancer Tactical Gearbox Shell is made of a CNC 7075 Aluminum, which results in a much more lighter weight gearbox, but built much stronger. The shell also comes with 8mm bearings to increase the fluidity and speed of the gearbox cycling. One revolutionary feature in this gearbox shell is the quick detach spring guide release. This allows the user to easily disassemble or assemble their gearbox as the shell is no longer under an extreme load with a spring in it. Overall, this gearbox shell is ideal for those looking to increase the performance, longevity, and reliability for their high end builds.Specifications:

This gearbox shell seems pretty good. The aluminum seems very durable. The cylinder window was pretty tough to radius in comparison to a Lonex shell, which is also fantastic. This is good though, as it means the metal is very hard. The QD idea is pretty difficult to do with one person, but is manageable. I am currently swapping between an m100 and an m120. The screws that came with it tend to back out of the shell with use, even with the locking washers on, so that was disappointing. I changed them for my original ones which work much better. I also ran into some fitment issues. The track for the selector plate on this requires a slightly longer selector plate that normal. The lonex plate I had would not function correctly, nor would the JG one that I had. Luckily, I had a g&g gr16 selector plate that worked perfectly. Also, every cutoff lever i had was too thin for this shell and wobbled a lot. All I had to do to fix this was to use a gear shim to stabalize it some. Neither for these is a huge deal, they are just annoying. Finally, the back of the shell is only very slightly tapered, so it required a good bit of dremel work to fit inside my Lonex metal body.
All in all, this is an extremely durable shell, and it will absolutely get the job done, as long as you are willing to modify it quite a bit. If you have the money, I would definitely recommend the Retro arms Quick change shell over this one, but on a budget, this is a good buy.
Pros:
1. Very durable
2. Seals nicely with my prowin hopup
3. All internal gearbox components fit well
4. Comes with decent 8 mm bearings, although I swapped them for bushings
5. Fairly large wire channels, fits 16 awg silicone wire, and the signal wire for my Gate MERF 3.2, perfectly.
6. Pretty cheap for a 7075 T6 shell
Cons:
1. Back of the shell wasn't tapered enough
2. Requires a longer than standard selector plate
3. Stock screws are low quality.
4. Does not come pre-radiused
5. Requires special fitment of the cutoff lever
6. Pretty ridiculous quick change design
Pretty good replacement gearbox. The quality is top-notch when you take it out and it comes with all the screws EXCEPT for the ones at the bottom that mount your motor grip.
I used this shell to replace the shell in my Echo 1 G3. I had stripped out the threads on my previous gearbox shell, so I looked for a new one.
I did NOT buy this with the expectation of quickly switching springs. I did buy it because I HAAAATE putting back together gearboxes with the main spring and yelling at it while everything's under tension hoping everything went together well. I bought it so that I could set the gears in, put the airseal components in, place the trigger in, and close the stupid thing up easily. THEN I could stick the main spring in the back.
I love shimming gears, testing airseal components, rewiring the system, and getting everything ready. I hate putting it all back together, but a QD gearbox helps.
However, there are a few cons. The selector plate from my G3 is held in quite loosely like the previous reviewer mentioned. I put everything back together and the plate fell out after picking it up. So to remedy that, I just taped it on the outside to prevent it from falling out, then ripped the tape off before putting it in the lower receiver. Not a big deal.
The spring is a little difficult to put in the back because you have to hold the spring guide and shove it in with the rear at an angle and slide it into place. Still MUCH better than not having it QD.
The spring posts for the trigger and tappet springs are reinforced. But I did have to shave off a little piece of the Lonex V2 trigger shuttle I put in. Dremels are always a good idea to have.
The bearings are solid and punched in so they won't fall out. You can route the wiring away from the motor, which is great.
I won't buy it again for my other G3 because the fire selector hole are juuuuust slightly too far rearward which means I had to shave my selector switch to get it to fit in the receiver. I'd be afraid the gearbox isn't standard with respect to the fire selector with my receiver.
Pros:
Great construction. Very hefty.
Bearings aren't loose and won't fall out.
QD helps with gearbox reassembly.
Easy to shim.
Good wiring routing.
Neat blue colour.
Cons:
Still difficult to put that damn spring back in, even with an M110.
Holes for fire selector are slightly off for my G3 receiver.
Had to drill holes into my grip because screws were on same side of shell instead of opposite.

Will I have to make any major changes to a polymer body in order to use this, or is it for specific bodies?
I like to get as much information as possible before I make a purchase.
I have an AIM Top polymer body with my M4 and I'd like to know if I have to make any changes to my body or the gearbox in order for this to work the way it should.
